What shipped
Tip Pool is a front-of-house tip-jar splitter. Name the shift, enter the pool total (cash + card tips), and add each person with hours and an optional role weight (busser ×0.5, host ×0.75, server ×1, bartender ×1.25 — or any free-form multiplier). Share points are hours × weight; each person's payout is their share of the pool. A stacked share bar shows the visual split, payout cards list dollars / percent / $/hr, and a verdict chip reads NO POOL, NO HOURS, THIN (<$8 per share point), FAIR SHARE, or FAT TIPS (≥$25). Leftover cents are assigned with largest-remainder so the payouts sum exactly to the pool. Copy a markdown payout receipt with an America/Chicago timestamp. State saves in localStorage under tip-pool-v1.
How to try
- The demo opens on Coffee morning: a $186 jar across Maya (4h), Jordan (4h), and Sam the barista (3h × 1.25). Watch the share bar and the per-person cards; the three payouts sum to $186.00.
- Load Dinner floor for a five-person house with a host at ×0.75 and a busser at ×0.5, or Bar close where everyone is weighted like bartenders.
- Tap a role chip (Busser / Host / Server / Bartender) before adding someone, tweak hours live, and use Solo closer for a one-person night.
- Hit Copy receipt for a markdown table you can paste into a Slack channel or a shift log. Save locally keeps the crew across reloads.
Why this (vs neighbors)
Plate Cost answers "which dishes eat the margin." Tip Pool answers the end-of-shift question every floor manager still does on a napkin: who gets how much of the jar. It's a deliberate local-business utility after a run of planning tools (Cut Line, Cost of Delay) and the civic visual toy from last night (Margin Math).
Scope trim
No POS import, no tax withholding, no tip-out cascades between stations, no multi-shift history beyond localStorage, and no shareable URL. Weights are free-form numbers, not locked role enums.
Limitations
- This is house arithmetic, not payroll advice. Local tip-pooling rules and labor law vary — confirm before you cash out.
- Card-tip processing fees, tip-outs to the kitchen, and manager tips are out of scope; fold those into the pool total before you split.
- Largest-remainder can prefer people with slightly higher fractional remainders when cents don't divide evenly. That is intentional so the jar sums exactly.
Suggested next steps
- Add tip-out lanes (e.g. 3% of sales to the bar, 1% to the kitchen) that debit the pool before the hour-weighted split.
- Add a multi-shift week view that rolls tip income per person for payroll export.
- Add a shareable link that encodes the crew in the URL, plus a printable cash-envelope labels mode.
