Reversibility Score

Score how reversible a decision or change is before you commit — REVERSIBLE / CAREFUL / ONE-WAY badge, rationale chips, copyable receipt.

Personal Utilities Interactive demo live Static HTML/CSS/JS

What shipped

Reversibility Score is a self-contained browser tool for asking a different question than Change Preflight: not “how big is the blast / are we ready to ship?” but “if this commits, can we still walk it back?” Title the decision, set blast surface, data-migration posture, public-API and user-visible flags, rollback-path clarity, time-to-undo, and unwind confidence. A live panel shows a 0–100 ease-of-undo score, hard-factor count, and a REVERSIBLE / CAREFUL / ONE-WAY badge with scannable rationale chips. The markdown receipt updates live; Copy receipt dumps it for Slack, Notion, or an ADR thread. Presets cover Flag flip, Public API break, and Data migration. Optional localStorage under reversibility-score-v1. Heuristic only — not a formal architecture decision record.

How to try

  • Open the live demo (iframe on the right, or full-page link below).
  • Load Flag flip — watch REVERSIBLE land with green chips.
  • Switch to Data migration — badge should swing to ONE-WAY.
  • Hit Copy receipt and paste into a design review or agent prompt.

Scope trim

No dependency graphs, no CAB workflow, no multi-stakeholder voting, and no automatic detection of “is this public API?” from a repo. One decision, a handful of commitment factors, one heuristic badge, one markdown dump, local persistence only. Distinct from Change Preflight on purpose.

Limitations

  • Scores are a local heuristic — your org’s real irreversibility (contracts, compliance, brand) may differ.
  • Clipboard copy needs permission; otherwise select the receipt manually.
  • Timestamps use the browser’s America/Chicago-friendly locale formatting when available.
  • Not a substitute for an ADR or change board — use it to think clearly, then follow your real process.

Suggested next steps

  1. Optional “evidence link” for the rollback runbook.
  2. Export a .md download in addition to clipboard copy.
  3. Tiny library of org-specific irreversibility templates beyond the three presets.
