Meeting Burn Rate

Watch the fully-loaded cost of a meeting tick up in real time—set headcount and blended rate, hit start, see the burn.

What shipped

Meeting Burn Rate is a self-contained browser meter for the fully-loaded cost of time in a room. Set people and a blended hourly rate (or grab a standup / design-review / all-hands / client preset), set a soft budget in minutes, and hit Start. A burn ring fills toward that budget while dollars tick live; pause, reset, and copy a plain-text receipt anytime. Coffee-cup and deep-work equivalences keep the stakes scannable. No accounts, no network calls.

How to try

  • Open the live demo (iframe on the right, or full-page link below).
  • Pick a preset or enter your own headcount and loaded rate.
  • Hit Start, watch the ring and dollar total, then Pause or Copy receipt.
  • Everything runs locally in the browser — rates are illustrative inputs you control.

Scope trim

No calendars, no SSO attendee imports, no payroll integrations, and no persistence. Soft budget only drives the ring and “over budget” line; burn continues after the budget fills. Equivalences use fixed coffee ($5.50) and solo deep-work ($85/hr) anchors.

Limitations

  • Blended rate ignores role mix, benefits loading, and contractor vs W-2 differences unless you bake them into the number.
  • Receipt copy needs clipboard permission; otherwise select the text manually.
  • Not a finance tool — illustrative for facilitation and culture conversations.

Suggested next steps

  1. Optional role chips (PM / eng / design) that sum into the room rate.
  2. Shareable URL hash encoding people/rate/budget for async “this is what that sync cost.”
  3. Export a tiny PNG receipt for Slack.
